If I'm better off asking on one of their forums I could do that, but I figured maybe someone on here has gone through this experience and could share. It doesn't have to be steam specifically, and I'm sure it varies some by platform, but that just seemed like the easiest example. I'm guessing that if I just repackaged the "new" fixed game, that players could just transfer their save to the new installation and go from there? Or would the saves not be compatible? (I can test this myself later but if anyone knows off top of head I'd appreciate it)Īnd if I'm right about the above, does this change once published through a platform like steam? Or is there a process built in where it would just update the changed application files and the players saves would transfer over? I can update my project to fix the issue at 2 hours, and create a workaround for the people with broken saves at 5 hours, but how does this get pushed out? Let's say I release the game, then a couple weeks later someone reports something I missed, and I realize talking to a certain npc more than once 2 hours into the game breaks something else 5 hours in. Obviously I would beta test the crap out of the game, but things can still sneak through. I'm aware of various platforms (like steam) to publish on, and could probably use their instructions to get that part of it complete, but my question is around updates after the fact. However, aside from just sending small projects to a handful of friends, I've never really published a game in any professional capacity, and have questions around it. So I've had an RPG maker hobby for a while now, and I am pretty comfortable with creating and exporting a game.
